Sevens series still up for grabs after Samoa fails to make final

Samoa have extended their lead in the IRB rugby sevens series, but a number of upset results at Twickenham means the title is still alive going into the final round in Scotland next weekend.

New Zealand were beaten 19-10 by Samoa in the quarter-finals of the London tournament... the 5th straight tournament time they've lost to them this season.

However New Zealand went on to beat Fiji 26-24 with a late try in the Plate final, while Samoa were beaten by South Africa in the Cup semi-finals.

Australia won their first IRB series title in 8 years beating South Africa 19-14 in the final.

Samoa have a 7 point lead going into the final round, so for New Zealand to win a 9th series title, they need to win in Edinburgh and hope Samoa don't make the final.
