American Samoa's only airline Inter Island Airways plans to expand its operations to Fiji.
Airline Vice President, Barney Sene, has told the Samoa Observer that Inter Island is in advanced talks with Fiji's Civil Aviation and Airport Authorities.
The proposal is for Inter Island to fly into Nausori Airport - with direct flights from Pago Pago to Suva and onwards to Nadi.
Mr Sene says they have set up office in Fiji and have already recruited personnel there.
The airline presently operates domestic flights in American Samoa between Tutuila and Manu'a as well as to Samoa.
Mr Sene said at some future date they plan to expand further into Fiji as a domestic operator.
He said the tourism market in Fiji is about 10 times the size of the Samoas which requires a lot of travel between island resorts.
Civil Authority of the Fiji Islands director, Akuila Waradi, told the Fiji Sun Inter Island Airways is working aggressively in meeting the requirements for a license to serve Fiji.
The requirements include certification from the United States of America departments of transportation to formalise Inter Island as a USA air carrier.
