Church in Samoa to consider establishing a bank to help parishioners

The Congregational Christian Church in Samoa is considering establishing a bank to provide low interest loans for its parishioners.

The outgoing chairman of the church, Reverend Situfu Esekielu Tanielu, says the proposal has been prompted by the high interest rates charged by commercial banks.

He said if the church bank is set up it would help provide financial assistance for the church as well as its people in many developments for their own benefit.

The church has allocated millions of dollars in the next financial year's budget for education, overseas missions and other church activities and developments.
