The American Samoa company, McConnell Dowell Limited, has been awarded a 6.6 million US dollar contract to repair and restructure a cyclone damaged road.
The funding is being provided by the Federal Highway Administration of the Untied States Department of Transportation to fix the main road on Ta'u after it was struck by Cyclone Heta in 2004 and Cyclone Olaf in 2005.
Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunken says the construction project is critical for the residents of Ta'u given the high priority of safety and access for transportation and commerce.
The design and construction of the project is being administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Honolulu.
It is scheduled to be completed by November 2011.
