Samoan woman pleads guilty to assaulting wife of former prime minister

A woman in her late forties has pleaded guilty to assaulting the elderly wife of Samoa's late head of state and former prime minister.

The assault victim, Ida Va'ai, of Si'usega village, who's the wife of Va'ai Kolone, was at the District Court hearing.

Her right eye is swollen and bruised.

The defendant has been remanded on bail for sentencing late next month.

Va'ai Kolone served as Samoa's prime minister on two occasions in the 1980s.
