Analysis by Inter Island Airways has found given the amount of passenger traffic between Fiji and American Samoa there is a huge tourism market in Fiji.

This is according to the Pago Pago based airline's executive vice president, Barney Sene.

Mr Sene says the company hopes to get approval sometime in July from the U.S. Transportation Department to launched direct flights between Pago Pago and Suva.

He says Inter Island Airways averages about 30 to 40 passengers per week out of Pago Pago heading to Fiji, but have to transit through Apia to Fiji.

He says there is also an untapped number of tourists in Fiji.

Mr Sene says over 600,000 tourists visit Fiji each year and that's growing.

Inter Island is also awaiting approval from the Fiji Civil Aviation Authority.
