The American Samoa education sector has been allocated a little over 30 million US dollars under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
American Samoa's US Congressman, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, says he hopes this investment will serve as a stepping stone to educational reform and economic recovery.
He says it will create incentives for school improvement, create jobs, and make investments in education that will result in many future benefits for the territory's people.
To receive the funds, the territory will need to assess elements such as schools and teachers, student progress and college readiness.
