The Solomon Islands Government says its new National Transport Fund Act will help improve the quality of transport infrastructure in the country.

The Minister of Infrastructure Development, Stanley Sofu, says donor money will go into the fund and allow a rapid response to maintenance needs on roads, bridges, ports and other transport systems.

The Government says such improvements are crucial to boosting economic growth, creating jobs, and providing access to basic social services, such as health and education.
