Niuean broadcaster, Susana Hukui, has received a Queens Service Medal for her services to the Pacific Islands community.

Mrs Hukui has been a broadcaster in the Niuean and Pacific communities for 35 years.

She was the first presenter/producer of the television magazine, Tagata Pasifika.

Mrs Hukui says the programme allowed Pacific people to tell their stories on television.

She says the face of television in New Zealand has changed over the years since when she first started.

"I think it was been wonderful to see more Pacific people on television and I must say that personally I think we have done a good job, in terms of promoting out people but we also have to thank the sports people, the academics and good leadership role models."

Susana Hukui also provides news in Niuean for listeners of Radio New Zealand International.
