Samoa Sevens team to be invited to American Samoa

7:42 am on 8 June 2010

As Samoa takes a day off to honor the world champion Sevens rugby team, the American Samoa governor, Togiola Tulafono is working on an invitation for the team to travel to the territory later this week so they can also be honored in American Samoa.

Samoa's national sevens team clinched the World Series title two weekends ago in the IRB Sevens tournament, a win that Togiola says is a milestone achievement that puts all Samoas on the top.

Togiola congratulated the team for their victory, which he says it not only a win for independent Samoa but for all of Samoas.

Over the weekend a local radio station announced that Togiola's office will be sending today to Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi an invitation for the Samoa Sevens to visit American Samoa.

The visit is for American Samoa to also honor the team for its success.

The Manu Samoa 7s world champions team returned to Samoa over the weekend where a crowd estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 were waiting at the airport.
