The President-elect of the autonomous Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville, John Momis, says his first task include ensuring good governance, weapons disposal and economic investment.
The Post Courier newspaper reports that Mr Momis wants to improve law and order, education and health services to create an environment that will attract investment, both local and foreign.
He also says the new regime would encourage joint venture partnerships so that the people are not just the resource owners, but will earn other benefits as well.
Mr Momis also wants to develop a consultative approach to solve the alcohol and drug among Bougainvillean youth and encourage them to surrender their guns.
The paper reports him saying he wants to encourage music and sports to enhance their skills.
Mr Momis will take office on Tuesday.
