The police in Samoa are warning business operators to take more precautions after several recent burglaries in which tens of thousands of US dollars have been taken.

The thefts have been from the Lotto Samoa office at Vaigaga, a mobile phone card business in Apia and an earlier bank robbery.

Police say, in total, more than 170,000 US dollars has been taken.

They says businesses need to consider using security devices to help monitor their premises especially areas where money is stored.

A 20 year old man has been arrested for the Lotto office theft.

He is alleged to have used tools to open the safe and take 30,000 US dollars.

A former woman security officer has been arrested for her alleged involvement in the break in at the phone card business.
