Figures released in the Northern Marianas show in May 2010 there were 12 percent more visitors than in May last year.

The rise was prominent in the South Korean market, with 47 percent more travellers.

This marks the sixth consecutive month of double-digit increases from its primary market.

Arrival figures from China almost doubled in one year to more than 3,000.

Arrivals from Japan were down 11 percent compared to May 2009.

In April this year, the Northern Marianas lost two daily flights from the cities of Nagoya and Osaka, which meant a 44 percent decline in air seats per day.

The services are expected to be reinstated over the next few weeks.
