American Samoa leaders meet Filipino company delegates

1:26 pm on 18 June 2010

A company from the Philippines which is exploring the possibility of setting up in American Samoa is keeping its plans under wraps for now.

Two officials of the company were in the US territory earlier this week for discussions with Governor Togiola Tulafono.

This comes amid government efforts to rebuild the economy after the closure of a big cannery.

A statement issued by the company through a local representative says it wants to finalise their plans before giving out information.

But the company says what it's doing is good for the territory and they hope to start at the end of this year.

Governor Togiola has not given any details about his discussions with the company, but says they were good and focussed.

He says no commitments have been made to the proposal, but he has asked for further information and more specific plans.
