Solomon Islands is holding talks with the European Union regarding funding to host the country's biggest ever international event.

The Permanent Secretary for the Environment Rence Sore told SIBC the proposed meeting will bring together negotiators from the least developed countries and small island states involved in the international climate change negotiations.

The meeting is expected to be held in Honiara in late September or early October.

Mr Sore says the aim of the meeting is for the countries to come to a strong position, which they can take to the United Nations climate change summit in Mexico in December.
