China has given Fiji 50,000 US dollars towards the cost of hosting next month's summit of the Melanesian Spearhead Group, which is expected to be attend by non-members as well.

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has told the Fiji Village website that China also continues to assist Fiji through various loans for housing and infrastructure projects.

The summit will be held two weeks before Vanuatu hosts the annual Pacific Islands Forum summit.

Vanuatu is an MSG member while Fiji has been suspended from the Forum because its interim government refused to hold election before the end of 2009 - three years after the military ousted the elected government.

Kiribati has confirmed its attendance of the MSG summit.
