Fiji bus operators are pleased that the interim government has cut import duties for new buses in the revised 2010 budget.

For new buses with a seating capacity of 23 or more, fiscal duty has been reduced from 32 to five percent and import excise dutyhas dropped from 15 percent to 5 percent.

The president of the Fiji Bus Operators Association, Zane Dean, says now the duty has come down significantly, members want to buy new buses that are more fuel efficient, easier to maintain, and safer and better for the environment.

"We are looking forward to taking the benefit of the duty concessions that has been given to us. We look forward to updating our fleet of buses. The buses are ageing and with these new buses coming in there'll be a reduction in our operating costs, of course we'll be saving on fuel and we'll have safer buses in our country."
