The police in Samoa have selected their first all female police contingent for its United Nations peacekeeping mission to East Timor.

Inspector Fa'agoto Patu, and Sergeants Vaalele Tofa and Kukuana Tavita will be deployed later this month.

The Police spokesperson, assistant police commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says the decision behind selecting an all female contingent is to point to the need and importance of gender equality in police work.

The three are undergoing weapons training before they leave the country for their mission.
