The financially troubled Commonwealth Utilities Corporation in the Northern Marianas is to fill 10 key positions to meet requirements placed on it by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The jobs include an executive director and senior managers in the water and waste water division of the CUC.

The CUC's assistant executive director, Abe Utu Malae, says last year the utility made a big mistake in water and wastewater by just lowering standards.

In March last year the EPA and the utility signed deals based on the requirements of the Clean Air Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The CUC agreed to create a new management and financial structure to overcome issues with its infrastructure and supply of fuel, the management of power generation and distribution, and its readiness for enviromental cleanup.
