A former police inspector in Samoa who was found guilty of five counts of committing indecent acts on a 19 year old male prisoner has been jailed for three and half years.

Fineaso Aimaasu commited the acts at the Olomanu Juvenile rehabilitation centre three years ago.

He was the first officer put in charge of the centre when it was opened in December 2006.

The presiding judge, Vaepule Alo Vaemoa Va'ai, says he'd set a four year jail term for Aimaasu but six months was deducted because he showed remorse, was a first offender and because of the impact on his family.
