Solomons' election candidate calls for delay in poll due to bad weather

A candidate contesting the Solomon Islands elections in the Vatud constituency in Temotu, Mua James Rafe, has called for the date of the poll there to be put back ten days, because of bad weather.

The SIBC reports that in a letter to the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mr Rafe says the current bad weather is affecting the movement of both candidates and electoral officers to the outer-most islands of Temotu Vatud.

He says putting elections for Temotu Vatud back to the 14th of August will still be within the legal time frame of holding elections within 4 months of the dissolution of Parliament.

Mr Rafe says the weather is restricting the movements of candidates and officials from Lata to the islands of Duff, Utupua, Vanikoro, Tikopia and Anuta.
