Call at Fiji meeting for Pacific nations to speak with one voice on climate change

1:34 pm on 23 July 2010

Pacific leaders in Fiji for the Engaging with the Pacific meeting have taken issue with the way funds are allocated for climate change adaptation.

They have re-stated their dissatisfaction at the failure of last year's Copenhagen Accord to address their common concerns in relation to climate change.

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua says often money provided for adaptation projects goes in consultants fees leaving little for capacity building.

Tuvalu's Prime Minister, Apisai Ielemia, says people need to visit Tuvalu to appreciate how dire the situation is there.

The Pacific leaders also say all Pacific nations need to speak with one voice on climate change because it's often the case that the smaller nations are ignored.
