Wallis businessman fears catastrophe if power supply not secured

A Wallis businessman says he fears catastrophe if the local government doesn't act to ensure long-term supply of electricity to the island.

Strikers have been causing problems at the EEWF plant for the last four months culminating in a ten day cut to power and water last month.

Despite the resumption of power and water, Louis Chardigny, says six hundred people marched last Wednesday to express their fears.

"People are very peaceful. It's very hard for them to make them angry. I guess people could be very angry if we run out of power once more."

Louis Chardigny says business people want action from the French government which administers the territory.
