A former senior finance officer at Samoa's Ministry of Police and Prisons has been sentenced to four and half years in jail for stealing more than 100 thousand US dollars.

Taylor Miti admitted to 97 counts of stealing tax payer's money.

The police allege Miti was part of a group of four who stole money from the Ministry of police between January 2006 to January 2008.

The three others, one a former accounts employee at the police ministry and two former accounts officers at the Ministry of Finance, will stand trial next month on similar charges.
