The Flying Doctors of America, a volunteer organisation that sends medical practitioners to countries with a special needs, will be conducting surgeries in American Samoa for the first time.
The group of 12, including physicians, surgeons and dentists will arrive in the territory on Thursday for a ten day mission.
The President of the organisation, Dr Allan Gathercoal says the team will assess the needs of more than 20 people and will conduct the necessary facial surgeries at LBJ Hospital in Pago Pago.
"Anything to do with the throat, the ears, the nose. Sometimes cleft paletes, which is usually more of an oral maxillofacial surgery. They can do that. We have a specialist who specialises in cleft palates."
Dr Allan Gathercoal says an obstetrician/gynaecologist and a dentist will also attend to patients in the remote Manu'a islands.
