The Vanuatu Cultural Centre is to sue the international mobile phone company, Digicel, over alleged breaches of historical site laws.

The Cultural Centre will take the action after complaints by the paramount chiefs in central Pentecost.

The chiefs have recently sent a complaint to the director of cultural center, Marcelin Ambong, alleging Digicel of clearing a historical site of Langare on the East Pentecost.

Mr Ambong says that following the complaints of the chiefs, he has decided to start legal proceedings against Digicel on the allegations of breach of the country's law on protection of historical site.

A spokesperson for Digicel in Port Vila says legal counsel is looking at the complaint.
