A new tax website is now available in Solomon Islands making it easier for companies and workers to file tax returns.

The managing director of Wellington company, Data Torque, Bill Chatwin, says they set up the website which has a tax calculator, forms to download and information on how to file returns.

He says Solomon Islands has a history of corruption, so one of the goals of the site is to make voluntary compliance easier.

"Previously there wasn't a high level of compliance, so there was, you know, multinationals basically coming in to the Solomons and not paying a lot of tax for a lot of the resources that they were taking out of the islands. And with the work we're doing with the Inland Revenue we aim to sort of resolve that issue so that the local people can benefit."
