The new regional media organisation, Pacific Media Association, plans to be self-funding.
At its establishment meeting in Apia last week it was decided to stay clear of what the vice chairman, Kalafi Moala, called the aid infrastructure in the region, which he says often results in funding traps.
Mr Moala says PacMA wants to be independent of the very dangerous tread in NGO and regional organisation operations of total dependence on donor funding agencies.
However, writing in the Sunday Samoan, Mr Moala, says there will be specific projects for which PacMA will seek help to fund.
