The Evaluation Committee of Solomon Islands Telecommunication has given Be-Mobile the new mobile phone provider licence.

The announcement came as the monopoly licence of Our Telekom ended last week.

Be-Mobile already provide services in Papua New Guinea while its parent company is involved in new New Zealand provider, 2 Degrees.

The Solomon Star quotes the committee saying the move is expected to produce significant benefits for the people of Solomon Islands.
