Government ministers in Tuvalu are finishing their work before returning to their electorates ahead of general elections next month.

Voting for the next four year term will take place on the 16th of September.

More than five thousand people are expected to be on the final voting role and they will elect 15 representatives.

The Secretary to Government, Panapasi Nelesoni, says people will not be tied to voting at one polling station:

"They can vote anywhere in the country, we have a register for all the islands anyway and they can vote at any polling station in the islands so the returning officer on each island will have send their votes to the electoral district they voted for."

Mr Nelesoni says the voting system in Tuvalu does not allow for overseas postal votes.
