Political maneuvering is going on in Solomon Islands ahead of tomorrow's election of a new Prime Minister.

The two contenders for the position are Danny Philip and Steve Abana.

The Head of Police in Solomons Islands has said security will be a very high priority before and after this week's prime ministerial vote.

In the last few hours, the former Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare has declared which side he and his supporters will be backing

"Manasseh Sogavare has announced he will not be supporting Danny Philip. He and his group, which is unclear how many there are of them, are joining the Steve Abana camp and will be backing him as candidate for Prime Minister. If Sogavare moves with the group that supports him, which I am estimating and which I believe it might be around five, including himself which might be six, it will definitely give Abana the majority."
