Exports and imports up in Samoa

Export earnings in Samoa reached their highest monthly level in the year in June.

In its latest statistics the Central Bank says strong gains in fish, bottled spring water and coconut cream, helped boost export by 17 percent to one and a half million US dollars in June.

But the Central Bank says a leap in imports widened the trade deficit 29 percent to 24 point seven million US dollars for the month.

The Bank says tourist arrivals increased 18 percent in June boosting earnings 29 percent .

Sports events, the seasonal influx of holidaymakers and visiting friends and relatives accounted for the increase in arrivals.
