Northern Marianas state workers about to get work cutback notices

3:43 pm on 30 August 2010

Over 1,500 notices cutting work hours and pay by 20 percent will be issued to civil service and some other state employees in the Northern Marianas in the next few days.

The government is making spending cuts as it tries to live within a budget of 132 million US dollars in the coming year.

Exempted from the cuts are doctors, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, corrections officers and others in critical services.

Federally-funded positions in the Executive Branch are also exempt.
