Nearly 600 unlicensed drivers caught in Samoa clampdown

Close to 600 unlicensed drivers in Samoa were caught in a two month period in a clamp down on a host of traffic offences brought in by new law.

Police officers put up road blocks when the Road Traffic Act took effect in June.

Between June 7 and the last week of July, 998 tickets were issued by Land and Transport Authority and Ministry of Police

The new offences that caught drivers out included not wearing a seat belts, driving while on the phone and smokey exhausts.
