Stolen money in Fiji is now in circulation says police

The police in Fiji say notes from the theft of more than half a million US dollars worth of new currency are now in circulation.

A police spokesman, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri, says it's still not known when the thieves cut the lock on the container containing a vault after it was unloaded from a ship that had arrived from Britain.

But he says some of the new 20 dollars notes have already been used:

"The stolen notes are already in circulation throughout the country. We have received reports from banks and other agencies that have received these notes as we had already notified them of the serial numbers."

Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri says the police are calling on the public to help them with their investigation.
