Solomon Islands forty-nine members of parliament have been commissioned in a church service in Honiara.

Hosted by the National Parliament at the Anglican St Barnabas Cathedral, the church commissioning service is to kick-start the members of parliament's induction program at the parliament house.

The SIBC reports the MPS were told that as elected national leaders, they were the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

The members of parliament were later commissioned by the Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia, Reverend David Vunagi.

The induction program begins today.
