Fiji's interim government says it is confident of it will achieve its development plans before the 2014 general elections.

The Deputy Secretary of the Strategic Framework for Change Coordinating Office, Filimoni Kau, has told local media the period from until 2012 is to focus on economic and social development.

FBC News reports from 2012 to 2014 government will focus on political development, including the constitution, which should be developed by 2013.

Mr Kau says the key date is September 2012 where extensive public consultations will be held.

He also confirmed that the electoral system for the 2014 elections will be changed.

He says the preferred system is the open list system which was recommended by the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.
