Ship arrival ends Cooks fuel shortage

3:17 pm on 16 September 2010

A week-long petrol shortage in the Cook Islands capital Rarotonga has been alleviated with the arrival of fuel supply vessel Southern Express.

The shortage was caused by the delay in the vessel reaching the main harbour of Avarua due to bad weather.

Rarotonga has just two fuel suppliers, which carry supplies to last two weeks.

It was the first shortage the island has experienced in many years.
