Tonga's Public Service Commission has not yet received any resignations from public servants who are planning to run as candidates in the General Election on November 25th.

However, Matangi Tonga online says there are Civil Servants who have launched their election campaign.

The acting Secretary of the Public Service Commission, Dr Palenitina Langa'oi says the only confirmed civil servant who is intending to run in the election is Dr Taniela Palu, but he is seeking an early retirement.

The Parliament on September 13 passed a Bill outlining the new requirement for public servants to resign from the civil service before registering as candidates for election.

But the Act has not become a law yet as the King has not yet given it his consent and the has not been gazetted.

Dr Palenitina says he expects resignations will not be more than 20, and that most will submit their resignations just before the registration dates of candidates which is October 21 to the 22.
