Tonga plans radio-thon for Canterbury quake victims

3:14 pm on 22 September 2010

The Tongan government is finalising plans for a national radio-thon to raise funds for the victims of the massive earthquake that struck the New Zealand province of Canterbury on September the 4th.

The radio-thon, on the national station, A3Z, is expected to be launched by the Prime Minister, Dr Feleti Sevele, at 9 on Saturday morning.

Dr Sevele has already written to business houses, church leaders, kava clubs and village development committees asking for commitments to the fund raiser.

Appeals are also going out to the general public while schools are raising funds through mufti-days.

Donations can also be made at banks and supermarkets.
