The Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association says it believes Fiji is this year on track to reaching record numbers of international visitors.

Figures quoted by the Fiji Times show that from January to June, a new record of more than 272,000 visitors was set.

The Association's President, Dixon Seeto, says Fiji now aims to reach a target of 600,000 for the year, beating the 2008 record.

He says the growth follows a combined effort by Tourism Fiji.

"So I think this combined with good promotional advertising campaigns and the very attractive packages that are available to Fiji; I think this has had a great impact on driving numbers to Fiji."
