American Samoa police shooting accused to seek insanity declaration

The lawyer for the man accused of shooting dead an American Samoa police officer is planning to seek a declaration that he was insane at the time of killing.

Lawyer Tautai Aviata Faalevao will make the case that Siaumau Siaumau Jr was insane at the time he allegedly murdered Lieutenant Liusila Brown on July the 22nd.

Mr Siaumau is also facing attempted murder, assault and weapons charges in connection with the shooting which happened in front of the high court in the middle of the afternoon.

He's been seen by the psychiatrist at the LBJ hospital and also had an evaluation from a mental health expert brought to the territory by the defence.
