A bilum clothing company in Papua New Guinea is hoping to market its unique products overseas starting with New Zealand.

Florence Jauke runs Bilumwear, a business that makes handcrafted bilum bags and clothes via a technique of string looping and crocheting bright colourful yarns into unique patterns.

But she says there are challenges to marketing the bilum products to global markets.

"Marketing is one of our problems. We dont have a large scale market it is done on an individual basis. The second thing is training, we need to be trained to get our product to meet the outside liking, like we need to plan our product and to the liking of New Zealanders. And thirdly it's about getting support from the Government, if we don't get support, we get nowhere."
