French Polynesia strike notices amid Teva i Uta dispute

2:06 pm on 4 October 2010

A raft of strike notices has been issued in French Polynesia in an apparent link to a dispute in a small Tahiti township.

According to Tahitipresse, the union O Oe To Oe Rima plans to take action in the fuel supply sector by Wednesday.

Among the targets for the strike are gas and electricity companies, the airport and fuel suppliers.

The move is linked to a protracted dispute in Teva i Uta where efforts have intensified to try to dislodge the mayor Tina Cross.

The strike over proposed cuts to the public services in Teva i Uta is in its eighth week.
