PNG's Somare pulls out of key role at Fiji independence celebrations

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has pulled out of this week's Fiji Day celebrations.

According to FBC News, Sir Michael has sent his apologies, saying he will not be able to officiate.

The interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, is now due to deliver the key note address on Thursday while the president Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will deliver the national address on Friday.

The public has been urged to fly the Fiji flag this week to mark the 40th anniversary of independence from Britain.
