The Papua New Guinea Government has announced 20 annual scholarships, for the next five years, for youths and students in the Pacific region to study at institutions in the country.
Speaking at a meeting of Pacific Islands Forum Education Ministers in Port Moresby, Sir Michael Somare said PNG was committed to playing its part in ensuring that Pacific youths are equipped to compete in today's globalised environment.
He says the scholarships will be available in subjects such as chemistry, biology, physics, geology, mathematics, marine and environmental science, agricultural science, information and communication technology and medicine.
The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is to implement the scholarship programme.
