Fishermen in Tokelau to keep a look out for missing teens

Local fishermen in Tokelau have been asked to keep a look out of any possible sightings of three Tokelauan teenagers missing at sea since last week.

The 14 and 15 year olds went missing from Atafu Atoll early last Wednesday morning and extensive air searches were carried out by New Zealand's Rescue Coordination Centre.

The General Manager of the Tokelau National Public Service, Joe Suveinakama says although search and rescue efforts by two vessels from Samoa and Tokelau have been stood down, local fishermen have been asked to help.

"We're advised all fishing vessels that come around the area just to keep a look out for any possible sightings of the three young boys that are missing. At the moment there's no government vessel or whatsoever searching for the three boys at this time."
