The president of Samoa Weightlifting if casino's are able to provide more funding for athletes and sports development then he's supportive of the governments decision to introduce them.

The Samoa Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sai'lele Malielegaoi, has defended the bill to introduce casinos saying they will provide more money for developing sports.

Samoa won 3 gold medals at this year's commonwealth games, all in weightlifting.

The weightlifting coach and president of Samoa weightlifting, Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork, says they rely solely on government funding and more money is needed.

He says if casinos are one of the ways more assistance will be given then he supports the government, especially since they are now looking to perform well at the Olympics.

"We've achieved gold medals at the commonwealth games, to look at the Olympic Games we're gonna need to work together. We will need quite a bit of funding and it's not only for preparation, we need to expose our athletes, our lifters to many international tournaments so they do get international exposure and get the experience to lift at the olympic level."
