Samoa cabinet to consider probe into former health director

2:35 pm on 20 October 2010

An investigation into the former General Manager of the Samoa Health Service has been submitted to Cabinet.

The investigation into Dr Stanley Dean's performance was carried out following allegations he abused his position by increasing the salaries of nurses and other employees without the Public Service Commission's approval.

Dr Dean was suspended by the PSC two months ago but he has now resigned.

Our correspondent Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says he spoke with Dr Dean two weeks ago.

"I asked him about the latest on the investigations of the PSC and he told me that the report has already been forwarded to the cabinet for their consideration and decision. And he said also that he has already made a written response to those allegations and the report, and it's before the cabinet."

Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says details of the report have not yet been released.
