Business and Professional Women of American Samoa says there are still areas denied to professional women.

The group is organising a leadership conference for women to help get more women into leadership positions in the territory.

The President of BPW American Samoa, Merilee May, said on the Samoa Sunrise Show that one of the goals is to identify challenges that are keeping women from leadership positions.

"It's not like you can only be a secretary, or a teacher, or a nurse, which were the traditionally female roles, but there is still areas, if you look at some of the top leadership things on island, you're going to see that you have a predominance of men, rather than women. And it varies depending on the profession and on the organisation."
